Cavaliers have recorded their first win of the season in second grade on the back of an unbeaten century from Stuart Crisp. Orange City are two wins from two starts following their 6 wicket victory over Kinross, while Orange CYMS lead the competition after two runs following their 56 run win over Centrals.
After winning the toss at Jack Brabham 1, Cavaliers elected to field first in their match against Wanderers. Wanderers made a positive start to their innings as openers Andrew Dodds and Calib Smith taking the score to 69 before Smith was dismissed in the 18th over. Wanderer’s century maker from the last round, Steve Nean was the next wicket to fall when Toby Peterson removed him for 17 with the score on 89. The Cavaliers bowlers held the upper hand from there by taking regular wickets and not allowing the Wanderers batters to form partnerships. Wanderers batted out their 40 overs to finish 9-165. Sam Hogan was the best of the Cavaliers attack with 4-21 while Toby Peterson took 2-26.
In reply Cavaliers lost an early wicket before a century partnership between Stuart Crisp and Jack Conolly put the chase right back on track, with Cavaliers eventually passing the Wanderers score in the 36th over to claim victory by 7 wickets. Stuart Crisp scored the winning run to bring up his century.
Right next door at Jack Brabham 2, Orange City’s Toby Jackson cut a swathe through the Kinross batting order taking 5/13 from 6.1 overs. Brad Johnson also picked up 2/16 and then made an unbeaten 32 to guide his team to the bonus point victory with 6 wickets in hand.
On a tricky pitch at Bloomfield Oval, Orange CYMS toughed their way to 113 after losing the toss and being sent in by Centrals. At one stage, the green and golds were 6-34 before Cooper Biddle (29) and the rest of the tail batted their way to what ended up being a defendable total. Wickets were shared among the Centrals bowlers, with Aijdan Mannering and Riley Davis each picking up 3 and Dean Starling 2.
The total proved too much for Centrals as they were bundled out for 57 with plenty of time up their sleeves. Wickets were shared around the CYMS bowlers, with Affan Khattak taking 3 and Sam Wilson, Thomas French and Cooper Biddle picking up two each.
